Nonprofits are often the custodians of some of the country’s most sensitive information, from personal health and housing records to immigration files, counselling notes, and details about vulnerable families. Yet leaders tell us they are expected to do more with less, often without the training, confidence, or support to safely manage digital systems securely or protect this deeply personal community-level data. Without the capacity to secure it, the risk extends beyond operational failure to real harm for the very people and communities nonprofits serve.
Digital resilience is a leadership responsibility, not just a technical concern.

The Non-Profit Cybersecurity Community of Practice is a dynamic, sector-wide gathering space for Canada’s non-profits, charities, and social enterprises — convening thought leaders, practitioners, board members, and changemakers committed to protecting the missions that matter most.
In today’s interconnected world, trust is the currency of impact — and trust in the digital age is built on strong cybersecurity and digital safety practices. Without them, organizations face growing risks to their operations, reputations, and the communities they serve.
The reality is stark: most boards and leadership teams in the non-profit and social enterprise sector do not have a formal cybersecurity policy. This leaves critical data, vulnerable communities, and organizational continuity exposed at a time when cyber threats are escalating in frequency and sophistication.
This Community of Practice — governed and led by the Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience (CCNDR), Social Economy Through Social Inclusion (SETSI), and Technology Helps — provides a safe, dignified, and solutions-focused environment for open dialogue and shared learning. It is a network of networks, uniting diverse leaders who understand that digital resilience is a leadership responsibility, not just a technical concern
